How to add a countdown widget on iPhone

You can add a free Outside countdown widget to your iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen in under a minute. Outside requires iOS 18 or later. First install Outside and create at least one countdown.

Add it to your Home Screen:

1. Touch and hold an empty area until the apps jiggle

2. Tap "Edit", then "Add Widget"

3. Search for "Outside"

4. Choose a widget size and tap "Add Widget"

5. Move it where you want, then tap "Done"

Add it to your Lock Screen:

1. Touch and hold the Lock Screen, then tap "Customize"

2. Choose "Lock Screen"

3. Tap the widget area under the clock

4. Select Outside, choose your countdown widget, then tap "Done"

Choose the countdown shown:

1. Touch and hold the Outside widget

2. Tap "Edit Widget"

3. Select the event you want it to display

If Outside is missing from the widget gallery, open the app once and try again. If the widget is blank, open Outside so it can refresh your countdowns.
